AgriScience & Land Innovation Program
Hands-on learning in sustainable agriculture and land stewardship, designed to build foundational knowledge in agri-science, land systems, and environmental stewardship through real-world application, observation, and guided practice.

Program Overview
The AgriScience & Land Innovation Program is a hands-on educational experience focused on agriculture, soil systems, and land stewardship. It is designed for youth, community members, and lifelong learners who want to understand how food systems, land, and environmental science connect in real-world settings.
Participants learn directly in gardens, fields, barns, and community spaces through guided instruction, observation, and active participation. The program blends applied science with experiential learning to make agriculture accessible, practical, and relevant to everyday life.
Grounded in sustainability and systems thinking, the program integrates fieldwork, demonstrations, and project-based learning to build a deeper understanding of how land and food systems function.
The Challenge We’re Taking On
Many communities, especially urban and underserved areas, face limited access to fresh food and lack exposure to how food is grown and maintained. At the same time, land is often underutilized, and there is a growing disconnect between people, agriculture, and natural systems.
Key challenges include:
- Limited access to hands-on agricultural education
- Lack of exposure to soil science, plant systems, and food production
- Underused land resources in communities and facilities
- Disconnection between everyday life and food systems
Our Hands-On Approach
Participants learn by doing through a blend of field experiences, guided instruction, and community-based projects. Each season combines practical application with structured learning so participants can explore ideas, build skills, and understand how land and food systems function in real settings.
On-Farm & Field Learning
Participants engage directly in outdoor learning environments such as gardens, fields, and natural land spaces. Activities focus on foundational agricultural practices and ecological understanding.
- Practical application of sustainable land use methods
- Soil care, planting, and crop growth cycles
- Land observation and restoration practices
- Understanding natural systems and seasonal change

Science & Technology in Agriculture
Participants connect science concepts to real-world agricultural systems using simple tools and observation-based learning.
- Soil testing and basic soil analysis
- Data collection and environmental observation
- Introduction to mapping and land measurement
- Understanding how science informs growing and land decisions

Mentorship & Community Projects
Participants learn alongside instructors, peers, and community partners through collaborative projects that support shared learning spaces and local land-based initiatives.
- Group projects focused on gardens and shared spaces
- Learning from experienced growers and land stewards
- Community engagement through hands-on participation
- Collaborative problem-solving in real environments

What Participants Gain
Each participant builds foundational knowledge, practical experience, and confidence working with land and agricultural systems.
- Skills in soil health, planting, harvesting, and land care
- Understanding of sustainable practices such as composting and water conservation
- Exposure to agricultural and environmental learning pathways Increased confidence using tools, working outdoors, and applying science concepts
- Experience working in group-based, project learning environments
- Stronger awareness of how food systems and land management connect
expected community impact
Engage 120+ participants annually through seasonal learning cohorts focused on agriculture, soil systems, and land stewardship
Deliver 3,500+ hours of hands-on instruction and field-based learning experiences each cycle
Activate 45+ acres of partner land, including gardens, farms, and community spaces for educational use and demonstration projects
Build partnerships with 20+ community organizations, including farms, schools, and local groups supporting food and land education
Support improved agricultural literacy, increased confidence working with land, and deeper engagement in food system learning.
Our Future Vision for Land & AgriScience
We envision a region where young people, new farmers, and community leaders have the tools they need to care for land, grow healthy food, and build resilient local economies. The AgriScience & Land Innovation Program is a stepping stone toward that future.
In the coming years, we aim to expand our training sites, deepen partnerships with employers and community organizations, and open more pathways for underrepresented communities to lead in agriculture and land stewardship.
